I have the Sunday (Monday) blues, BIG TIME- which is always a sign that the weekend was a wonderful one. It was another one for the books, filled with cookouts, bonfires, slow mornings and the farmers market!
This week’s haul was a quick one. We had to get back to the pork butt that was slowly smoking in the backyard, after all. We live a tough life over here. We got in and we got out but we got everything we needed for the week.
As we drove up, we realized there was one of those color runs letting out, which lead both of us to roll our eyes so hard, they nearly fell out of our heads BUT never the less the market was great and it wasn’t too crowded. My cheese lady was MIA. Cheese lady where are you? Please come back- I committed to this thinking I’d be able to get my weekly cheese fix from you. Though, I begrudgingly admit a week without cheese wouldn’t be the worst thing for my sodium intake or my waistline. Aside from cheese lady flat-leaving us, we were able to get a bunch of other goodies. We hit up the bread guy and two produce stands. Next week when we can mosey around and take our time, we agreed that we should spread the love and visit more of the vendors that the market has to offer. Like, um, the locally distilled whiskey stand.
What we purchased:
2 bags of spinach
1 bunch of rainbow chard
1 bunch of kale
1 bunch of carrotts
2 bunches of purple spring onions
2 heads of elephant garlic
1 bunch of garlic scapes (the top part of the garlic plant, a spring delicacy!)
1 dozen eggs
1 loaf of sourdough bread
How much did we spend?
41 dollars, total.
Here’s a picture of the strawberries I didn’t buy, but lusted over for a moment or two. I’m trying to get the most bang for my buck and 6 dollar pints of strawberries (that I would probably devour in one sitting) didn’t fit that bill.
We also purchased: milk, coffee (roasted here in Maryland), olive oil, apple cider vinegar, lemon & honey. Along with pork sausage and chicken, both grown locally here in Maryland. These items came to approximately 50 dollars total and were purchased at the local market.
This weeks total cost for 2 people: 91 dollars.
