This weekend was another one for the books. It checked off all the components that in my world make a great weekend: lots of time spent outside, check. Great food, check. Great drinks, check. Bonfire, check.
We went to the Great Frederick Fair and this fair kicked every fair I had previously attended’s butt. There was a goat show! Not a dog show, but a goat show. I saw baby pigs that had just been born a day before and got to pet a bunch of cows and goats. I felt like a little kid again and it was so fun! We even wrangled a pig that accidentally got out of it’s pen and by “we” I mean Mike and the pig owner. I watched, too amused to get in on the action. There were tons of animals, a horse show, a gigantic Ferris Wheel (my personal favorite) and of course tons of great fair food.
We didn’t know where to start but we were ready, having skipped breakfast in preparation to consume all of the fair treats we could get our hands on. Things we wanted included but were not limited to: funnel cakes, pit beef sandwiches, corn dogs, fries, ice cream, and apple dumplings- just to name a few. We started off with a lemonade, followed by BBQ pit beef sandwiches and then washed it all down with ice cream cones. After that we had to tap out but not before getting an orangeade on the way out. We were sad and we also really wanted sausage and pepper sandwiches from one of the last stands we passed at the fair.
Being the problem solvers that we are, we headed home and later that evening made our own sausage and pepper sandwiches for dinner around our very own fire. It was a fantastic food adventure and don’t think I forgot about the apple dumpling- there’s an apple festival coming up in a few weeks.
